Why Sometimes You Can Rank Well Without Meta Tags

Simplest answer is because they are not that important. Backlinks are the feul that drives the rocket in the moon.

Sure, it's not just the fuel. Same thing, without meta tags, spiders still show something to the searcher.

Remember meta tags are considered important only because the meta title and meta description is what appears in the search results. The meta title linking to your site, and short snipped of words, the meta description.

But it has nothing or almost nothing to do with rankings. You see, if you don't have meta title tag, spiders will usually put Untitled... and without meta description they grab some content from your website and put it there.

It's not good for the searcher seeing Untitled if he searches for dog food, that's why you need to use meta tags.

But, a page can still rank. Meta tags are more of a quality factor, that's why you should do it on the homepage because most often that's the page you want to get high rankings for. But every other page if possible should have unique meta tags.

Again, no one knows how much if any at all it has effects on your rankings, just that it's so very very little. Probably there are more onpage optimization strategies you should apply, then there is offpage. While offpage is the feul, that's also why an affiliate link ranks well in search engines if it has any feul, offpage optimization.

As an seo you should focus on offpage optimization mainly. But if you have time to do onpage optimization, it's something you should do. It's going to help, little or very little it's still going to help. Remember also there are lots of onpage optimization strategies you can apply, in fact there are more onpage than offpage strategies. So many few things will finally end up getting big and having a big impact.

So that's why websites can rank without having meta tags. Most people think meta tags sort of are the reason or one of the primary reasons why a site gets ranked. That's not true.

What you cannot directly see when you visit a website is driving that website rankings at the top. The amount and quality of the backlinks. There are free tools to find the number of backlinks any site has as well.

One other important thing is to have a bigger site, the bigger it is, the better. Assuming always you put in quality pages of course. It becomes known as an authority site, and pages themselves can get high rankings not just your homepage.

5 Simple Strategies for Increasing Your Search Engine Rankings

Search engine optimization isn't as complicated as many want to make it out to be. I learned SEO simply by reading and following instructions. With the right software, it's very easy to do. (I use Web CEO).

Even if you don't use software to optimize your site, there are still some simple things you can do:

1. Use the right keywords.

After working with several of my clients, it didn't take long to find out that they were using the wrong keywords for their websites. Although they knew their topic, they hadn't done any keyword research.

Do your keyword research. Optimize for multiple keywords. Find out what others are searching for.

2. Write keyword rich content.

Once you have a list of keywords, use these keywords to write your content. Content needs to include articles, product reviews, possibly a FAQ. You want to give readers as much information as possible. Educate your readers.

3. Consider all on page factors when optimizing.

On page factors are everything from internal linking to using heading tags and bold. Link to pages within your site. Reference other material in your page to draw readers deeper into your site. Good in site linking makes it easier for your readers.

Use bold for major keywords as well as using your keywords as anchor text for links. Use the H1 tag for your major headers. Search engines consider this tag to be important. Include your keywords within your headlines.

4. Build backlinks.

Backlinks are different from internal links. Backlinks are links from other sites that point back to yours.

There are many ways for you to build these kinds of links. Start by writing articles and submitting them to top article directories. Not only will articles promote your site, but they will also build backlinks.

Look for top sites on your topic. Check to see if they offer linking opportunities for your site. Contact the site owner and ask for a link.

One way to make it easier to get good one way backlinks is to offer an affiliate program. Allow those who are pointing back to your site to get paid for referrals.

5. Keep your site updated.

If you want to keep the search engines coming back to your site, you need to offer new content. This may mean writing new content. Adding RSS feeds are another way to offer constantly updated content, and this content updates automatically.

Learn proper "White Hat" search engine optimization, and you will rank well in the search engines. Stay abreast of the changes in search engines to keep high rankings.
